Liz's Doily Garden Tea Party

This sew-sweet quilt came from a new client, Liz. It involves lots of doilies, crocheted by her family members. Her fabric selections make it feel like a Tea Party! I absolutely loved working on this piece. It reminded me of my own grandma and her life-long love of crocheting. Liz executed this multi-media piece brilliantly. It was a joy for me!

Lorna's Gardening Quilt

This quilt pattern will be a class at Rumpled Quilt Skins in Okotoks, AB, which starts at the end of May. I love all the appliques throughout this piece. As usual, Lorna's technical perfection made my job easy! I love quilting for her!

Baby Giraffe Quilt

Lorna brought me this baby-gift quilt. The giraffe is made of faux fur, and the backing was fleece. SO CUDDLY!

At first, I left the giraffe unquilted, but when I got it off my quilting frame, I didn't like how the loose fabric pooled. So I added quilting lines throughout the giraffe, using the giraffe pattern as my guide. So, you'll see conflicting photos below...

Purr-ific Quilt

My client, Brenda, found this panel, and then spiced it up by slicing it up. Her grandson really took a liking to it, and so did I.

The tiger section is not pieced, even though it looks like it. It was printed on fabric in such a way that it's color-separated. It very well could have been paper-pieced! I stitched on each of the lines between colors, which contributed to the "pieced" look.

The end result is really captivating. The tiger's eyes will really GET you!

I also really enjoyed binding this quilt, so that it was totally finished when it went back to Brenda.

Three Quilts for Donna

These cuties are for my client Donna's granddaughters. Every grandkid gets a personalized quilt, and boy, are they lucky!!! These pieces are adorable and so meaningful!

 

RQS Victorian Christmas Quilt

This piece is the same pattern as Brenda's Puffy Christmas Quilt, but it turned out quite differently. Obviously the color choices are different in the thread and fabric, but also the batting and quilting styles were quite a departure from the first version I quilted.

Linda @ Rumpled Quilt Skins, in Okotoks, AB, wanted this quilt to be very flat, not puffy at all. So, where I left much of the real estate on Brenda's quilt untouched, on this one I filled up every nook and cranny I could find. I used clear, mono-filament thread, because I knew I'd be practically covering this thing in thread, and I didn't want it to detract from all the exquisite embroidery. Between the embroidery and the quilting, there is just SO MUCH THREAD on this quilt! We also used a REALLY flat, low-loft batting, with barely any body at all.

I've gotten to quilt two of the "same" quilt, and I like them both equally!
