Brenda's Puffy Christmas quilt

Brenda brought me this quilt, which was based on a pattern from Rumpled Quilt Skins in Okotoks, AB. It is HYPER-appliqued! The ENTIRE. THING. is applque/embroidery. If it wasn't for all that thread, this would just be plain fabric. No panels whatsoever.

Brenda did not want the applique to be diminished by being quilted over. So, wherever possible, I simple stitched in the ditch of the small blocks. But some of the larger blocks were too big to leave completely unquilted. Over time and wear, the batting in a large space will pull apart. So, I just did some outlining as sparingly as possible, around the major elements of those larger blocks.

We used wool batting, which made this piece delightfully puffy and also light-weight. Which was, good, because it was already really heavy, with all that applique stitching. I just can't believe Brenda is able to craft such exquisite quilts, and she only learned how to quilt a few months back!
