Joni's Circles and Squares

This is another virtually PERFECT quilt from my quilt client, Joni. To go along with these vibrant colors, Joni had a vision for the quilting design. She wanted to add interest by creating unquilted diamonds inside the squares that didn't already have appliqued circles. I felt it was important to keep the circles as the focus of the quilt, so I elected to skip a straight-forward outline of those imaginary diamonds, but instead to quilt up to the imaginary diamonds with serpentine lines. It gives their edges a softness, where, in contrast, the appliqued circles DID receive an outline in the ditch, so that they have a crisp outline. I think it's a lovely piece!
