Jacobean Tapestry

Here's another beautifully embroidered quilt from Rumpled Quilt Skins in Okotoks, AB. To achieve a tapestry effect, this embroidery dense design included over 4,000,000 stitches! It is a very detailed piece, but the gals at RQS tell me that it is completely achievable by a confident beginner who has the time to see it through.

For quilting, I used channels to connect embroidered motifs in the quilt top, and also featured focal designs in the open corners. But the most time-consuming part of this quilting project was simply outlining "in the ditch" around much of those delicate embroidered areas. The double-layer of batting and the delicious wool fabric of this quilt top work with the quilting lines to create an embossed look.

RQS will be teaching this as a class on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, May 4-6. Kits will be available in a range of backgrounds. Required hoop size of 8x10". Call 403-938-6269 to find out more and reserve your spot!
