Kites quilt

Brenda brought me this exquisite quilt top. Paper-pieced kites are the focal point, with their whimsically dancing tails. I used quilting motifs that were in line with that free-spirited whimsy. Free-form "McTavishing" was the filler I used in the background areas surrounding the kites. A more structured wave pattern in the orange border and the multi-colored border. Piano keys in the outer black border, made out of serpentine, diagonal lines. Ruler work inside the kits and echoing around the kite tails and bodies. I felt like the whole thing was evocative of wind and floating.

I love how this piece turned out, and I thank Brenda for letting me work on it for her!

My quilting is all free-motion, hand-guided on an APQS longarm quilting machine.
