Mary's Dynamic Duo

Here are two quilts from my returning customer, Mary. They feature bold contrast in color-value, even though the variety of colors in each quilt is limited. They are both classic and elegant, and they were a blast for me to work on!

Spoonflower Panel

This quilt was a single piece of fabric that I purchased from a website called, Spoonflower. It's called "cheater quilt". It's a fabric panel, printed to LOOK like a pieced quilt top. I LOVE "cheater" quilts! I am so in love with the quilting part of the process, that I don't have any patience any more for selecting fabrics, cutting, sewing, pressing, piecing, etc. I just want to get to the quilting!

Heather's AMAZING sampler

Okay, I just feel good looking back at these photos. Don't you love how this quilt looks?!

This one came from my client, Heather. She took on this AMBITIOUS piece, and by the time she brought it to me, she was tired of it! Some of the pieces in this project are 1/4" wide - actually MANY of the pieces! Churn dash, 9-patch, orange peel, applique.... there are lots of traditional qualities. But the colors and fabrics used give it a youthful vibrance that made me absolutely fall in love with it!

Heavy quilting was what I considered the only option. The tiny pieces of this quilt's construction demanded to be treated individually. I LOVE it!

Barb's Baby quilt

This quilt was made for a new baby in my client Barb's family. It's adorable, and I bet the baby is, too!

Ann's "Newspaper" quilt

This Irish Chain quilt came to me from my client, Ann. I have worked on a few quilts over the years that had a similar color-scheme - black, white, and red - and every time, I'm reminded of one of the first jokes I learned as a youngster. What's black, white, and red all over?.... a newspaper (get it? black, white, and READ)! (Insert forehead slap and eye roll)

Ann requested RED thread, even in the non-red areas of the quilt. She is such an adventurous quilter! Contrasting thread color is always a bold choice, much like Ann herself - BOLD! I think it turned out great. She made the right call!

Lovely quilt for Lisa

My quilty friend, Lisa, is probably my most organized client. She always brings along pre-printed and filled-out order forms. She always has perfectly pieced backings and appropriately-sized battings. She always has a price-point in mind (which gives me some framework to know how intensely quilted it should be) and gives me lots of lead-time before deadlines. She is definitely an I dotter and T crosser.

So I just had to chuckle at this project, because uncharacteristically, this was a project that she had THOUGHT was already quilted. She had it tucked away to give for a future-dated gift event, and then she went hunting for it and realized it had indeed NOT been quilted! When she called me in a panic, I flat-out laughed!

I had no problem flipping this quilt around quickly for her (even in her caught-off-guard state, she was still WELL ahead of deadline!). Once again, another precise, gorgeous, well-crafted quilt by Lisa. Yummy homespun fabric and traditional design, along with earthone/jeweltone colors. My favs!
